According to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), in the face of the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI), enterprises must not only adapt to new trends but also build digital infrastructure operational capabilities capable of keeping pace with the speed of technological innovation. The “2026 Data Center and Cloud Infrastructure Summit”—hosted on April 20 in Hanoi by Viettel IDC, a subsidiary of the Vietnam Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel) specializing in data center and cloud computing services—focused its discussions on development strategies for data centers and cloud computing in the AI era.

Held under the theme “Providing Sustainable Infrastructure for Global Digital Growth,” the 2026 Data Center and Cloud Infrastructure Summit offered practical perspectives and concrete implementation roadmaps designed to help enterprises bridge the gap between the pace of technological development and the responsiveness of their digital infrastructure.
Le Ba Tan, CEO of Viettel IDC, stated that during the 2026–2030 period, AI will no longer be merely a standalone technology; rather, it is systematically reshaping digital infrastructure. Currently, there are approximately 11,000 data centers worldwide; although those dedicated to serving AI constitute less than 1% of this total, they consume 25% of the entire system’s electricity. This statistic underscores how AI is driving up demand for data processing and fundamentally altering the global data infrastructure landscape.
According to data presented at the conference, the global data center market is projected to reach $627.4 billion by 2030, with the Asia-Pacific region accounting for $174.8 billion. Although Vietnam’s market is relatively small in scale, it is classified as a high-growth market, boasting a growth rate of approximately 14.2%. Concurrently, Vietnam’s cloud computing market is expected to reach a value of $1.5 billion by 2030.
In terms of AI capabilities, Vietnam currently ranks 45th globally on the AI Readiness Index, trailing behind Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. However, according to the “Global AI Index 2025” report published by the Worldwide Independent Market Research Network (WIN), Vietnam ranks 6th globally in terms of trust in and acceptance of AI—a ranking that highlights the country’s strengths regarding social confidence in, and willingness to embrace, this technology.
The discussion sessions at the 2026 Data Center and Cloud Infrastructure Summit focused on building AI-ready infrastructure, developing multi-cloud and hybrid cloud architectures, optimizing energy efficiency, and enhancing security, regulatory compliance, and system resilience. Attendees also shared their experiences regarding the application of artificial intelligence within enterprises—such as customer data analytics in the financial sector, supply chain optimization in manufacturing, demand forecasting and personalized experiences in e-commerce, and the automation of IT system operations—thereby helping companies enhance their efficiency and long-term scalability.
